SUFFERING

I look at you

and I see

the pain in your eyes

the mask

you wear

to conceal it

unbeknownst to all

but me

I watch

as she carelessly rips apart

your heart

yet again

for a good laugh

or the empathy of another

I cringe

as the beautiful person you are

slowly rots

unconsciously

wasting away

to nothing more than an empty shell

tortured

by years of anguish and resentment

I ache

as I wrap my arms around you

and realize

that I'm powerless

against this suffering

Unable

to stop

this never ending sorrow

within you
